“Live video, synched with live music, and we’re sitting outside under an evening sky. It’s just amazing!” exclaimed Susan. Frank and Susan Skubic were still floating after attending both Nickel Creek and the July Fourth Spectacular.
“And Yo Yo Ma was fantastic!” added the self-proclaimed audiophile Frank Skubic, a long time Petaluma resident. Both he and his wife, Susan, are recently retired from their finance and tax accounting careers, and are busy traveling the globe and enjoying local restaurants, wineries, and live music and theater performances. Their recent travels include St. Martin and Europe, and are excited to be going to Maui in October. They enjoy the local music scene, frequent Cinnabar productions, and are regulars at Petaluma restaurants. Everywhere they go, they are always being asked “Where have you been?” and this gives them the chance to share their latest Green Music Center experience.
They have been coming for years. Their first concerts here include the Beach Boys and Boz Skaggs. Recently, Frank and Susan doubled their monthly recurring donation to the Green Music Center. After attending Executive Director Jacob Yarrow’s season preview this May, they plan on attending more of the shows in our upcoming season. “We feel like we are part of it.”
Frank has always called the Bay Area home. He was born and raised in the Excelsior district of San Francisco. Frank studied at USF and Golden Gate University to become a financial and tax accounting professional serving Bay Area organizations. Frank and Susan came to live in Petaluma in 1989.
When I asked Frank about his music collection and set up, Frank rolled his eyes and Susan shook her head. He laughed and said, “You should see my house!” alluding to a vast collection of music and hinting at an equally impressive set of stereo equipment to support his passion.
Susan hails from SoCal, and admits to having been a Los Angeles Dodger fan. Her family moved to Oregon, where she attended University of Oregon and upon returning to California, Golden Gate University. After working as a banker for 10 years, she took a new path at Dean Witter, at 101 California (what a beautiful building), but alas, her office had no window, just a doorway.
Frank met Susan on her first day on the job at Dean Witter through that doorway. Frank was the first person to introduce himself by sticking his head in her office to ask, “Has anyone invited you to lunch yet?” Before retiring, she worked at Kistler Vineyards, Sebastopol, for 20 years.
Frank and Susan support the Green Music Center by both showing up and stepping up. They attend performances and provide year-round financial support. Thank you, Frank and Susan, for all you are doing to encourage everyone to go to the Green Music Center!
