Bachgrounder lecture 35 minutes before each performance

Wow! A chance to immerse ourselves—a cappella, no less—in two of the greatest musical centuries of all! We’ll begin way back in the early 15th century to lay the foundation with music by such composers as Dunstable and Ockeghem. We will of course take a sojourn with the inimitable Josquin Desprez, featuring his great Missa Pange lingua, based upon a hymn for the Feast of Corpus Christi. Then we’ll wring out the 16th century with sacred and secular works by some of our favorite composers, including Orlande de Lassus; Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina; Luca Marenzio; Claudio Monteverdi; and Giaches de Wert.
