Pioneering visionary David Krakauer offers the world premiere of his concerto for klezmer clarinet, The Fretless Clarinet, co-composed with Kathleen Tagg. The piece references Krakauer’s passionate and highly personal sound world, which comes from the music of his Eastern European Jewish roots, mixed with additional, myriad influences. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s beloved Scheherazade spins a seductive web of beguiling tales of exotic adventure and enchantment inspired by One Thousand and One Arabian Nights.

“David Krakauer is such an overwhelmingly expressive clarinetist who moves so seamlessly between different genres that for a minute you’d almost think that there’s no appreciable difference between jazz, klezmer and formal classical music.” The Wall Street Journal
