SCHROEDER HALL 2017-18 SEASON ANNOUNCED!

AUG 8, 2017 – SONOMA COUNTY, CA

Schroeder Hall at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center announced today its 2017–18 season. Now in its fourth year of programming, Schroeder Hall showcases a diverse array of artists, with performances highlighting the highest level of emerging International talent, outstanding local musicians, and campus-wide educational events. From hosting Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winners to serving as the main hub for university and community musical events, Schroeder Hall celebrates and makes accessible the vibrant scope of the arts.

Completed in 2014, Schroeder Hall is a 240-seat cathedral-like recital hall, designed specifically to accentuate instruments, organ, and voice in an intimate setting. Designed by BAR Architects of San Francisco, the 3,420 square-foot Schroeder Hall is notable for its curved architecture featuring no 90-degree angles, soaring ceilings, and dedicated organ balcony that is home to a 1,248-pipe Brombaugh Opus 9 organ.

SUNDAYS AT SCHROEDER

The popular Sundays at Schroeder series, brimming with up-and-coming musical superstars, returns for the fourth year with a range of offerings on Sunday afternoons. The series opens on October 8 with young pianist NIKOLAY KHOZYAINOV performing works by Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann. His 1 p.m. concert kicks off a day of piano-focused music at the GMC, as the Santa Rosa Symphony and pianist Joyce Yang take over Weill Hall later that afternoon at 3 p.m. with Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto.

Fall programming in Schroeder Hall continues with two dynamic artists: 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, violinist ALEXI KENNEY (Oct 29) and international saxophone sensation ASHU (Nov 26). The new year brings new musical adventures, starting with the exciting piano duo ANDERSON & ROE (Jan 21), who also complete a two-day residency in conjunction with the SSU Department of Music. Acclaimed Stanford University organist ROBERT HUW MORGAN returns to the GMC with “Variations on a Theme” (Mar 18). The prize-winning Canadian pianist CHARLES RICHARD-HAMELIN appears for the first time at Schroeder Hall (Mar 25). DOVER QUARTET performs their program “From Dusk ‘Til Dawn”, which features contemplative quartets of Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Borodin (Apr 1)

MUSICIANS FROM VALLEY OF THE MOON MUSIC FESTIVAL

Returning for their second season at Schroeder Hall, musicians from the Valley of the Moon Music Festival are featured in three concerts this spring. Based in Sonoma, Valley of the Moon Music Festival is the first and only festival in the U.S. devoted exclusively to presenting the chamber music of the Classical and Romantic eras, performed on instruments built when the music was written. They present three varied programs in Schroeder Hall, including “Schumann’s World: Fantasies and Fairy Tales” (Jan 27); “Benvenue Fortepiano Trio – The Little Orchestra” (Mar 31); and “Schubert’s Legacy” (May 12).
