Strauss’ tone poem features one of the most recognizable horn solos in classical music. Also on the program is a world premiere for string orchestra from the Assistant San Francisco Symphony Concertmaster, Mark Volkert. The Grammy-winning pianist Yefim Bronfman brings his formidable technique to Beethoven’s final piano concerto, which was written in the shadows of Napoleon's occupation of Vienna and is one of the composer's most heroic works.
