These two bands — led by 22-time Grammy winning piano master Chick Corea and 15-time Grammy-winning Banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck — occupy the top tier of truly thrilling improvised music. Joining them for the evening’s “double-feature”, New Orleans native Trombone Shorty is the bandleader and front man of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave., a hard-edged funk band that employs hip-hop beats, rock dynamics and improvisation in a jazz tradition.
